September 3, 1980, François Méchali and Beb Guérin blend their double basses at the Chantenay-Villedieu festival. The two friends, essential bassists and companions of Michel Portal, Anthony Braxton, Antoine Duhamel, Sonny Sharrock, Bernard Lubat, Archie Shepp and Kenny Wheeler, offer three dialogues based on themes by François Méchali, where each phrase is as much about urgent simplicity and unvarnished musicality. This recording, the last by Beb Guérin - who passed away on November 14, 1980 - is the first for the nato label.

3 septembre 1980, François Méchali et Beb Guérin mêlent leurs contrebasses lors du festival de Chantenay-Villedieu. Les deux amis, bassistes essentiels, compagnons de Michel Portal, Anthony Braxton, Antoine Duhamel, Sonny Sharrock, Bernard Lubat, Archie Shepp ou Kenny Wheeler offrent trois dialogues à partir de thèmes de François Méchali où chaque phrase est autant de simplicité urgente et de musicalité sans fard. Cet enregistrement, le dernier de Beb Guérin – qui nous a quittés le 14 novembre 1980 - est le premier de la maison de disques nato.
